Student
Projects
To promote ownership and to allow students to incorporate their own passions into the class, I often try to integrate semester long projects into the course. Here you can see some examples of projects.
The Malleable Brain Book
Working as a class, we tried to produce a book exploring how the brain can change and adapt. Each student wrote a chapter of the book and all of the chapters were compiled using the jupyterbook platform into an online book. You can read the book here.
Grant Writing
The neuroscience of movement course wrote grants individually. Each grant was in the style of a NIH NRSA, including a specific aims page and 6 page research strategy. Students also participated in a mock grant review panel to experience the highs and lows having your grant reviewed.
Independent Data Analysis Report
The Data Analytics Course chose an open life sciences dataset, wrote a registered report and performed and presented a novel analysis on the data.

Here is a list of suggested datasets for students to explore.
